Preliminary Design Ideas

To start brainstorming ideas for our yoyo, each of us sketched a couple rough designs. We are leaning toward a butterfly shaped yoyo with a ball bearing to allow for maximum spin time. The butterfly shape also allows us to add design features in the hollow of each half, such as the lunar cycle or evolution cycle suggested below. Many different yoyo section profiles are also suggested, ranging from cylindrical to Batarang shaped. It will be up to us to figure out what designs are feasible for injection molding. It is also possible to use insert molding to add a metal ring to the rim of the yoyo to increase its moment of inertia, giving it more stability at the end of the string.
